About Sarah Giles
I am a Canadian trained family / emergency physician currently on my fourth assignment with MSF. On this assignment, I am part of the search and rescue team in the central Mediterranean. I'm working on the MV Aquarius, a ship MSF operates in conjunction with SOS Mediterranee. As the doctor on board, I provide care to our passengers — many of whom have been on the road for months, fleeing terrible conditions in their home countries. When the sea is too rough for smugglers to launch boats, I can be found swabbing the decks and working on my French and Arabic language skills.
